What this site is right now

Build in India is a prototype. It is being built in the open, with a small and slowly growing readership. The articles are written to be useful, and they are also an experiment in how to write them well.

We say this because a website can look more established than it is. A clean design is not evidence of authority. Please read us the way you would read a thoughtful stranger, not an institution.

We use AI, and here is exactly how

Artificial intelligence is used in producing this site. Mostly to research, to draft, and to make complicated subjects simpler to read. Every article is then reviewed by a person before it is published.

That review is the point, because AI makes a specific kind of mistake. It writes fluent, confident sentences that are wrong. It invents figures that look reasonable. It attributes a quote to the wrong person. It states a claim with no source and no way to tell that a source is missing.

We have found all of those in our own drafts. Some were caught before publishing. Some were caught afterwards and corrected. We assume there are others we have not found yet.

What we do to keep it true

Every factual sentence in an article carries an internal marker: either a reference to a source we checked, or an explicit note that this is our own opinion rather than a finding. A sentence that has neither does not get published.

Sources are named and linked, with the date we checked them. Where a figure comes from a person describing their own work, we say so, because that is a claim rather than an independent measurement.

When we cannot verify something, we leave it out. A missing number is better than a wrong one. Several numbers have been removed from this site for exactly that reason.

None of this makes us right. It makes us checkable, which is a different and smaller promise.

Correlation is not a conclusion

Two things happening together does not mean one caused the other. A founder who did X and then succeeded may have succeeded for reasons that had nothing to do with X. This is the most common way that business writing, including ours, misleads people.

Where we describe what someone did and what followed, treat it as one story rather than a rule. Where we draw a conclusion, it is our reading and marked as such. You are entitled to disagree with it, and we would like to hear about it if you do.

Nothing on this site is financial, legal, tax, investment or accounting advice. We are not licensed to give any of it, and nothing here is tailored to your situation.

Articles about funding, investors, pricing or business models are explanations of how something generally works. They are not a recommendation to do it. Where we name a company, a fund or a person, we are describing them, not endorsing them, and naming them says nothing about whether they would be right for you.

Before you commit money or time

Do your own research. Check anything here that matters to your decision against the original source, which we link wherever we can.

Do not base a serious business or investment decision on an idea or concept you read here. Use it as a starting point for your own thinking, not as the basis for a commitment.

Where we suggest trying something, we try to describe the smallest and cheapest version of it. That is deliberate. Test an idea at a size where being wrong costs you an afternoon rather than a year.

Links to other sites

We link to sources, companies, funds and other publications. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, their accuracy, or what happens to them later. A link is a reference, not a recommendation.

Links also rot. A page that said one thing when we checked it may say something else now, or nothing at all.

Found something wrong? Tell us

This is the most useful thing you can do for the next reader, and we mean it.

Every article has a correction link at the bottom that opens an email with the article title filled in. Or write to hello@buildinindia.org with the sentence that is wrong and, if you have it, what it should say.

Corrections are made visibly. We keep the original publication date and show when a piece was updated, so you can see that something changed rather than finding it quietly rewritten.

The content on this site is provided as it is, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, as to its accuracy, completeness, reliability or fitness for any purpose.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Build in India accepts no liability for any loss or damage arising from the use of, or reliance on, anything published here, including any decision made or not made on the basis of it.

Content may be out of date. Markets, prices, regulations, funds and companies change, and an article is a description of a moment rather than a standing fact.

Responsibility that grows with the audience

Right now this site reaches very few people. That will change, and some of those readers teach or advise others, which means an article can travel much further than the person who read it.

We take that seriously. It is the reason for the source checking described above, the reason numbers get removed rather than guessed, and the reason this page exists at all.
