Deepinder Goyal started what became Zomato by scanning restaurant menus and putting them online so colleagues could stop queuing for the lunch card. That small fix for a real, boring problem grew into a company that reshaped how India discovers and orders food.

From restaurant listings and reviews the company moved into delivery, building the logistics, ratings and merchant tools that a nationwide food network needs. Zomato later expanded into dining-out memberships and, through its acquisition of Blinkit, into quick commerce.
